What’s the Angle?
I think I'm close to solidifying the angles and framing of this opening scene.
Most of the feedback I got from the previous weeks has been about the clarity of what's actually happening in each scene. So I made an official top-down (which will also help me as I draw the assets) and began fixing frames to add more clarity.
I started drawing beats for the rest of the story as well. Beat boards/drawings help explain the plot in a visual format. They illustrate causes and effects that can be used to ensure the story is cohesive visually. They don't focus on the cinematography or framing; they operate as sketches of the overall story.
Here's what I've gathered about storyboarding: the boards can be poorly drawn as long as they make sense. The story should be in the drawings. It's something that you only get better at through practice.
As far as what's next? I think one more round of feedback will be great to make sure the story and angles are working. Drawing the actual art and timing the scenes will probably follow that.
What's stopping progress? I've been committing to drawing inside Storyboard Pro this past week. Figuring out brushes that I like is a fun part of learning new drawing software. However, I'm using my iPad as a second monitor to draw on. It is so.... slow. There's a serious lag when I'm trying to draw. My goal is to use the campus lab this week (they have Cintiqs) and see what it's like to use SBP as intended on a large pressure-sensitive screen.
Top-down of bus
I took a few reference videos and images of me falling in front of the camera, getting up, and walking over it. The sketches here are super rough and aren’t necessarily from the reference. I won’t scare you with the reference photos I took, but it’s all part of the process.
