It’s Been a While…

Although the semester is over, I've been working away on Vermillion. I've met with my thesis committee, finished the first version of the story introduction, and started boarding other sections of the story. There is a lot to share, so I'll break the progress and updates down by act.

Introduction:

I finished the first draft of the introduction. I don't plan on going with this overall style for the final project. I also got a lot of great feedback from my thesis committee about how I can improve some beats. I’ll add the revisions I’ve made since this in the next blog post.

Reunion:

Nothing to see here yet. In this act, Adella is reunited with her friends in her hometown.

Shopping:

I have some beats and very rough boards. I've since gotten feedback that I will update and incorporate into the next stages of the storyboard

Party:

This is the beginning of the end. I'm working on the thumbnails and boards for this section, but haven't received any feedback yet.

Heart-to-Heart:

Not much to see here either. This is the calm before the storm. The purpose of this section is to reinforce all the themes, feelings, and ideas introduced earlier, right in time for the climax.

Crashout:

Adella reaches her breaking point, and a villain is born. (This is my favorite part of the story.)

These are the early boards that I have gotten feedback on. They've been updated a bit since this exact version.

Ending/Vermillion:

Still working on it! In this act, Adella reaches a conclusion as to who she is and makes it known to those around her.

Next steps:

I'm working on putting it all together (even in the really rough and early boards). I've been advised to make a voice recording of the entire project so I can see what's missing or going long. There may be some parts that feel repetitive.... In cutting it together, I'll work on the in-between acts that haven't gotten as much attention. Nothing here is final or polished. In fact, it's very messy! The polishing and refining will come after the entire story is roughly figured out.

Bonus:

I like the spelling "VermiLLion," but the word is typically spelled with one L. Still working out how I feel about it. I've been spelling it with two L's the whole time, so we'll see if it sticks.
